10/21: Tales of Halloween

Had a crazy busy weekend, so I missed my film for yesterday but here's the film from Saturday:

10/21: Today's horror film was Tales of Halloween, a horror anthology film made up of 10 short films that occur in the same town. Horror anthologies are hit and miss; you have the great ones, like Trick 'r Treat, or the mixed or downright bad like, say, Holidays (mixed bag). I'm happy to say that Tales of Halloween does just enough and is just original enough to edge itself into the "good" category. Some of the short films aren't great, some are decent, and there's a few really good ones. It's still a mixed bag, but the pendulum tends to swing towards entertaining. It takes a Trick 'r Treat approach to the horror anthology (full of camp) rather than the V/H/S one (actually scary and gross out) and creates a lot of fun with the camp. Demon children, mutated slashers fighting aliens, head-eating jack o' lanterns, etc. It's a fun watch for Halloween, and there are definitely worse ways to spend a couple hours.

8/10
