Drag Me to Hell

10/22: For today (yesterday's) flick I watched Sam Raimi's Drag Me to Hell. It's cool seeing Raimi return to horror after doing the Spider Man franchise, and it's cool to see the same cheese present in Evil Dead put into a modern film context. The film follows a young woman who brings a curse upon herself from an old gypsy woman wherein, after being tormented for three days, she will be taken to Hell. The movie is full of crazy, weird, over the top shenanigans, all of which seem to include things being either shoved in Christine's mouth or splattered on her face. Which, I'm sure, is very intentionally sexual from Raimi, and the ridiculousness of it all made me laugh out loud several times. Pretty much all the characters in the film are intentionally made out to be idiots as well (idiot theory going again!) and yield further to this sense of ridiculous. With Drag Me to Hell Raimi takes a pretty tired story and injects it with his own brand of horror humor which is one of the reasons I like his horror films so much. It has a classic, 80s cheese vibe to it, and how can you go wrong with that.

8.5/10
