The Texas Chain Saw Massacre

10/31: Well, here it is: My final horror movie of the month! Another major movie in the genre that I somehow haven't seen, I watched the original Texas Chain Saw Massacre. What a surprising movie for 1974; I'd even go so far as to call it one of the first torture porn movies. There's not so much "porn," but plenty of torture. The film follows the usual story for this type of horror: group of teens go to remote area, get killed. There ya go. Really the scariest part of the movie is just how absolutely crazy the family the teens stumble upon are. There's no rhyme or reason to why they kill; they just do. The killings are surprisingly realistic and horrifying too; it's not hard to see how this film became so iconic. That being said, I think the modern era of TONS of films like this has tainted me toward this film. While I realize it was one of the original types of film like this, it still feels overused. When I can remove the film from that context it does seem a lot better. I also find myself just plain less interested in horror films like this; I find the supernatural far scarier than what crazed killers provide. Which is odd, as the idea of crazed killers is, in a weird way, more realistic.

A good, realistic slasher film that deserves it's spot in history, but one I find myself just not terribly interested in.

7.5/10

And that's all folks!
